The preliminary sketches and plans from 2022

(updated October 2025)
On this page, you will find the original concept drawings for what church members hoped would be the future of Pasadena Community Church. Repeated zoning challenges and other issues involving permitting and city approval, followed by two hurricanes that caused significant damage to the Sanctuary, have forced church leaders to reconsider what construction and renovation should get the highest priority. That discernment process is underway (Fall 2025) while engineers and other experts assess the cost of repair and replacement of damaged or outdated sections of the buiildings.

The 2022 sketches envisioned a new entrance to the Sanctuary.

The original plan would have turned the Life Enrichment Center almost completely into the new preschool. But subsequent plans kept the preschool mostly on one side of the building while church offices remain mostly where they are currently. The 2022 vision imagined the church Thrift Store also moving into the LEC but the final 2025 plan did not include the thrift store in the LEC.
Go here to see the updated LEC/Preschool plan from August 2025.

The biggest challenge to our renovation plans has always been what to do with the 100 year old Hamilton Building. The 2022 plan imagined Hamilton might include renovated classrooms, an elevator, new restrooms and a large children’s area. But after the 2024 hurricanes, engineers examined the building in detail and determined the cost of renovating the Hamilton Building alone will likely consume all or most of the revenue that the church’s land sales will produce.

The 2022 plans included the possibility that PCC might add a “Gathering Space” to the Sanctuary. That was before hurricanes damaged the sanctuary and made it unusable while church leaders investigate the costs of repair or replacement.

Below are the sketches of what the Gathering Space was envisioned to look like in the 2022 plans.

The 2022 plan included the hope that there might be enough money remaining to rethink the sanctuary seating and acoustics.

The future of all of these plans has changed. Some of the changes, such as the Preschool and LEC plans changed modestly while changes in store for the Hamilton Building and Sanctuary will likely be altered significantly from the original 2022 vision.

Whatever final vision emerges for Pasadena Community Church’s home, it will require church membership approval and church leaders are determined to stay within the budget determined by the income that the sale of the two land parcels will produce.

  1. Is there a way for the sound to hang from the ceiling sound panels that will absorb the echoes and break it up without losing all the light from the beautiful windows. I thought I had seen somewhere some fabrics etc that would do this. Also is there a way to put different shapes with woods that match the alter etc at different shapes and sizes from the ceiling and the bak walls to absorb sound.

  2. To add to above comment. Troy studio acoustic and whisper wave are sites that might help and acoustical solution.com has some ideas for you to start with.

    1. thanks, we will be exploring many options to be sure. I am told there have been one and maybe two studies on the sound over the years but I am not certain how in-depth those studies were. The challenges are obvious, the glass, the height of the room and the fact that the place was designed in 1960 with a 2,000+ seats in place where now we have half as many but larger seats. And the n umber of people in the room affects echos, I am told.
The challenges is 1)how to keep windows 2)how not to box in the place and lose the beauty we all love and c) live within whatever budget we have. Once the land sells the committee and designers will understand what options are available. THANKS so MUCH for caring enough to read this and comment.— Al / PCCForward
