As part of the construction project that will move the PCC preschool into the LEC, workers will turn most of what is now our stage into two classrooms. That means a wall will be where the curtain is now. Our current plan is to move the curtain in front of the new wall.
The committee that is reimagining our LEC worship space has been consulting with the Recovery and Reuse Committee and approved a plan that will eventually move the altar from the Chapel to the LEC stage. The larger altar that is on the sanctuary stage will be put into storage for possible reuse in a new worship center. There are no plans to move the altar from the chapel until the Hamilton Building demolition is imminent.
Once the wall goes up on the stage, there will only be about seven feet between the wall and the edge of the stage. You can see two blue tape rectangles in the photo below. The smaller one is the chapel altar; the larger one is the sanctuary altar.
The committee is currently planning to mount the two monitors on the wall and move the band members to either side of the stage to make space for the altar.
The committee voted to add a few sections of portable staging to the front of the permanent stage, which is where the Contemporary singers and the pastor’s lecturn will be located. The photo below gives you an idea of the portable stage PCC is purchasing at a cost of about $10,000. The portable stage will have steps on both sides and skirting around the bottom. We will have to disassemble the portable stage sections every week during basketball season.
Given the delays in the construction schedule, the construction on the stage may not commence until after Christmas. We will keep you updated.
