(Sunday, November 2, 2025) The Pasadena Community Church membership unanimously voted to reopen discussions around the 2022 Master Plan. That plan described our vision for the renovation and renewal of our campus. It has become obvious that the plans envisioned in 2022 are no longer viable, considering the damage that storms caused to our Sanctuary. In addition, new engineering reports revealed that the renovation we envisioned for the Hamilton in 2022 is no longer financially viable.
This vote DOES NOT describe a new plan that will be forthcoming in the next few months as the Discernment Committee investigates the condition and needs of all of our campus property, including the LEC, The Hamilton Building, and The Sanctuary.
In the November 2nd meeting, the members watched and then discussed three videos, which we are posting here.
Video 1 provides an update on the sale of the “soccer field property,” updated plans for the Life Enrichment Center’s transformation into a preschool, and several maintenance issues that we are addressing.
Video 2 describes the newest assessment of the condition of The Hamilton Building and what engineers are telling us it would cost to bring the building into 2025 code compliance and make the building useful for PCC’s future.
In Video 3, you will see what the latest inspections of the Sanctuary have shown us. We have engaged with engineers and experts to begin to understand the complexities of what repairs and maintenance issues the Sanctuary requires. You will also hear the latest cost estimates for such work.
Click the video an update on the soccer field sale, how much money the church netted from the sale, and the progress of renovating and repairing the LEC.
Part two: an update on the latest engineering reports for The Hamilton Building. You will see the many structural issues that have arisen with the building and its additions over 100 years. You will also see some early estimates of how much it would cost to address those needs.
The third video takes you on a tour of the Sanctuary, which has been closed for use since the October 2024 hurricanes. You will learn the latest on the church’s insurance claim for storm damage as well as engineer reports about the condition of our massive roof and the distressed condition of the concrete in our sanctuary basement. You will see visual evidence of all of this.
In the coming months, the Discernment Committee will continue to meet with experts and members of our church family to reach an informed recommendation about how Pasadena Community Church should proceed with our plans to grow while remaining steady stewards of our resources.
No single committee or individual will decide the future of our church buildings. That decision will come after considerable prayer and discernment.
