Application for historical designation withdrawn

(July 8, 2023) The third-party applicant has withdrawn the application to designate Pasadena Community Church property as a local historical site.
The applicant withdrew the petition (7/6/23) after city staff determined, as we anticipated all along, that the church property where the PCC preschool is located do not qualify for historic status.

As we have reported to you, the application stopped the real estate marketing to sell the two parcels of property that church members approved for sale. Potential buyers generally do not want to purchase land that would have to comply with more restrictive historic oversight. The months of delay have added to the costs of our plans and tempered some buyers’ interest until the matter was resolved.

The PCC Building Oversight Committee (BOC) will determine soon how to restart the marketing of the property which includes the “soccer field” and the land on which the PCC preschool is located.

The BOC thanks the City of St. Petersburg Historic Preservation Commission staff for its professionalism in this matter and is thankful to the petitioner for withdrawing the application so that the church can proceed with its plans.

It is worth restating that selling this property, renovating the Hamilton Building and preparing the LEC for the modern updated preschool. relocating and reimagining the preschool playground and upgrading portions of the sanctuary will take YEARS to complete.

Nothing will happen immediately and we pledge to keep you informed right here on PCCForward and in-person meetings every significant step of the way.
